Can anyone help me confirm that my E-bay Samantha is okay? I think she is gorgeous, but her legs keep pointing in pretty badly. It seems like they are strung too tightly. Also, as Samantha's eyelashes match her hair, I am wondering if she is on the older side? The dress she arrived in says "Made in Hungary" and her tights say "Made in Taiwan". I wonder if having her restrung at the AG hospital would help? I am sorry to be a bother, but any help would be greatly appreciated! I have 5 pictures of her in my Imagestation album titled Samantha Doll. Here's my Imagestation URL:

    Thanks!

Gosh, I don't know about her legs... She does seem a bit toed in. She looks lovely though! If I may ask, what is the date on your Hungarian dress? I've never seen one and I am curious about when they were made there.

    Sorry I'm not more help!

    Abby,
There is no date in the dress, just two tags:
One says "Outfit Made In Hungary For Pleasant Company" and the other tag has the standard washing instructions. Both tags have code 2135 at the bottom.
The tights say "Made in Taiwan for Pleasant Company copyright 1993 Pleasant Company" This tag has the code 3369 on it.
When I did a search for Hungary on this board, I found information suggesting Hungary may have been a source for dolls and/or clothing after Germany and before China.
Thanks for responding; I am desperate for input on this doll!

You could have her restrung. It may or may not help. Our Kirsten has the same issues. I can turn her feet out. Can you do that with Sam or do they just flip back into the toe in?

    Johanna,
Thank you! It is good to know this problem is not totally unique. I would say that I can turn her feet out, but after a bit of playing with her and moving her around, they start to go back in. I have been pulling at her legs to see if I can stretch the stringing out a bit, but it is hard to say if there is a difference.
    Thanks!

The stretch will come over time. With Kirsten we don't ever do anything about it really. I have restrung plenty of dolls. You can always do it yourself. I wouldn't send it to AG. They are to expensive to have them do it.

It is hard to tell from pictures, but her face looks like the older face, especially the eyes, which show more white then the newer eyes. Her face looks like my old white bodied Sam's face.

My guess is that the toes are turning in because the elastic is too loose, not too tight. Tighter elastic would pull the top of the leg into the hip and force the lower leg out. If she is an older doll, it is not surprising that the elastic would have loosened or degraded over time.

She is an older gal. Hungary did indeed come after Germany and before China.

She is pretty and I like that she is pigeon-toed.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I did a search on this board for restringing and found the web link (provided, I believe, by Taffy Cheerful). I am sure this takes courage, but I am also nervous about the thought of sending Samantha in to the AG hospital as Ria's Kit had some trouble there.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thank you! I fell in love with her face, and I am absolutely in love with her now that I have her to see in person (she just arrived yesterday). She will actually be a birthday gift for my DD. I had kind of wanted to get her a Samantha who was a little older as my niece already has a Samantha, and I thought it would be nice if DDs Samantha was a little different. I think you and Johanna have convinced me to embrace her uniqueness. If it bothers DD, I can always send her to the hospital later.
Thank you all so much for helping me to come to a decision!
    Shawn
